Driver could face charges following head-on collision

Midwest City emergency crews respond to a head-on collision Friday evening near SE 15th St. and Felix Pl.

A head-on collision sent one person to a hospital Friday evening.

Assistant Police Chief Sid Porter said at about 8:30 p.m. a driver crossed the center line on SE 15th Street near Felix Place and struck two vehicles. The driver hit the second vehicle head on.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital. He was treated and later released. The other people involved in the accident were not injured, according to police.

The accident happened near Midwest City High School. At the time, the school was hosting Choctaw for boys and girls basketball games. Police said no students were involved in the accident.

Emergency crews closed SE 15th Street between Felix Pl. and Key Blvd. for about two hours. Traffic was rerouted to Wilson Dr.

Police believe the driver that caused the accident was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

“The man was treated and evaluated and we’re planning to present charges for DUI and other offenses,” Porter said. “We’re waiting for the toxicology report and then we’ll issue a warrant.”

Porter said they do not yet know the speed of the vehicle in the accident. The posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour. The block is also part of a school zone. St. Philip Neri  Catholic School is just south of the intersection.
