Minco hosted the game, the last home game for the team.

“I told the seniors that this was their last game on this field,” said coach Brock Wardlaw. “Everyone played for the seniors.”

The Bulldogs dominated the first quarter as quarterback Shannon Williams scored on a 30-yard run to put Minco on the board early. A successful two-point conversion made it an 8-0 game.

Cordell tried to run the ball at Minco, but the Bulldogs were ready, shutting down their running game.

“I ran a different defensive package than we usually do against Cordell,” Wardlaw said. “I put just about everyone in the box and some bigger bodies in there that do not get a lot of playing time. They did a great job.”

Minco’s defense scored a touchdown as James Overton recovered a Cordell fumble and took it back 40 yards for a touchdown to make it a 14-0 game. At the end of the first quarter, Minco led 22-0.

The Bulldogs would continue to pour on the points in the second quarter. Minco ran the ball very well as they were close to having three players with at least 100 yards rushing.

Cole Burchfield ran the ball for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Tucker Halstead ran for 95 yards and also scored twice and Williams ran for 90 yards with a touchdown. Minco ran a variety of counter plays and misdirection plays to throw-off the Cordell defense.

At halftime, Minco held a commanding 42-0 lead. And it didn’t stop there.

Williams returned the opening field goal of the second half for a touchdown.

“The game was pretty much over at that point,” Wardlaw said. “I pulled my starters early in the second half.”

Minco did not turn the ball over one time in the game, while forcing a fumble and interception.

Cordell would muster 12 points, but that wouldn’t be nearly enough as Minco went on to win the game, 62-12.

The Bulldogs have now won five straight games since their one and only loss to Chisholm in week seven of the regular season.

Now, Minco will play at Afton in the Class A quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7:30. Afton defeated Warner, 83-0, in the first round and edged Cashion, 32-30, to advance to the quarterfinals.

“Afton is very athletic,” Wardlaw said. “They run a very similar type of offense to us and have a very good quarterback and running back, the best we have seen all year.”

The Bulldogs have outscored their first two playoff opponents with a combined score of 102-18.
