Six players, coach earn postseason honors
Six players from the 2014 Class 6A state champion Mustang softball team earned all-district or all-conference honors this week along with head coach Bryan Howard.

SHAWNEE - Mustang coach Bryan Howard had one goal in mind when he took over the program in January.


“I’m coming here to win a state championship,” he said. “That’s the only way I look at things.”


That goal was accomplished on Saturday. After a single to deep center off the bat of Karis Clark, Zion Archer crossed the plate to give Mustang a 4-3 extra inning win over Broken Arrow and the 2014 Class 6A state title.

Mustang bends, but doesn't break in win over Southmoore

Mustang bent, but didn’t break in its 7-3 win over Southmoore on Friday.


Most expected offensive firepower. Casey Thompson runs and Chandler Garrett passes. A high scoring, 6A-matchup. However, it was three defensive stands by Mustang, that ultimately led to the team’s fourth straight district win.

NORMAN - For the second straight week, Mustang’s defense answered the bell.

Last week was a shutout, a 46-0 stomping of Putnam City North. This week was adjustments.
