Minco voters turned down a proposition that would of changed the town’s city clerk/treasurer position from an elected position to an appointed position. The proposition failed with a vote of 87 “Yes” votes to 144 “No” votes, according to the Grady County Election Board.

Citizens voted on the proposition during the primary election on Tuesday, June 26.

At a special council meeting on Monday, April 9, the Minco City Council voted 7-1 to approve the amendment change and to bring it before the voters. Councilwoman Karen Dirickson voted against the amendment.

Interim City Clerk Jana Brown took over the position after the former clerk, Billie Lennington, resigned from the seat and was promoted in April.

The next election for the City Clerk position will be held in April of 2013.
