Mustang High School has filled five head coach vacancies this summer.
Will Allen, Caitlyn Bernhardt, Taylor Hurst, Chad Harper and Mike Meledeo will take over programs during the 2014-15 school year.
Allen, former wrestling head coach and current boys tennis coach will take over the wrestling program once again, replacing Dave Rankin who retired at the end of the 2013-14 school year. The Broncos sent five wrestlers to the state tournament last year, including a pair of freshman, a junior and two seniors. Allen last coached the Broncos from 1999-2005.
Bernhardt will take over as volleyball coach, replacing Taryn Steele. Bernhardt is a former athlete at Mustang and graduated in 2008. She also helped Steele as assistant coach during the 2014 fall season in which the Lady Broncos went 20-11, falling to Edmond North in regionals.
Hurst will take over the girls tennis program, replacing Rankin as well. Hurst helped coach both tennis teams as assistant coach during the 2014 spring season. Last year, Mustang sent five players to the State Tournament, including three seniors.
Harper and Meledeo will each take over Mustang’s golf programs in the spring, pending school board approval. Harper, a current football assistant coach, will replace Galen Wolfe as boys golf coach and Meledo will replace Rodney Henning as girls golf coach.
The boys golf program failed to qualify for the State Tournament as a team last year, but sent two seniors individually. The girls golf team finished in the top-10 at State for the seventh straight year and had two seniors compete individually.
Harper and Meledeo will likely be approved by the school board at its next meeting in July.
Mustang has filled all coaching vacancies left behind from the 2013-14 seasons. Bryan Howard also joins the list of new coaches. He was hired as the head softball coach in January.
