Will Allen has been named the Mustang Broncos wrestling coach, taking over for Dave Rankin who retired from teaching and coaching at the end of the 2013-14 school year.

Allen served as Mustang’s head coach from 1999-2005, taking over for Rankin then and turning it back over to Rankin when he returned to finish out his coaching career from 2006-2014.

“It’s kind of been our trend,” Allen said. “I take over for him and he takes back over and then I take over again. I loved working with coach Rankin and was willing to stay and coach with him. I’m just looking to continue what we started together.”

Allen said the current Broncos should be lifting weights and running over the summer, but his first official day with the team will be the first day of the 2014-15 school year. But although he has to wait, he’s already built chemistry with the team as assistant coach in years past.

“It’s a real good fit,” Allen said. “We started something together and have helped build the program. With coach Rankin retiring it allows me to pick up right where we left off last season.”

Allen is also Mustang’s boys tennis head coach and will continue those duties next spring.

Mustang’s wrestling program has one state championship (1983) and has produced multiple state champions and an Olympic Gold Medalist, Kendal l Cross.
