Over the weekend Choctaw Times Managing Editor Ryan Horton was honored at two separate professional awards banquets.

Saturday morning the editor attended the Oklahoma Education Association’s annual awards banquet where he was presented three of the association’s prestigious Marshall Gregory Awards.

Horton’s work in the Choctaw Times was honored with the Award of Excellence in News Story for his work titled “A-F Ratings Released.” He was also presented an Award of Merit in Series and Award of Merit in Year-Round Coverage.

The Choctaw Times was the only professional print news source in the state selected to be honored with the prestigious Marshall Gregory Award.

The KFOR news team was presented a Broadcasting Award of Excellence in Year-Round Coverage for their work titled “What’s Right With Our Schools.”

Later that night Horton attended the annual awards banquet hosted by the Oklahoma Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Horton was presented two OKSPJ Awards for his writing.

Horton secured first place in the state in the category Diversity Coverage and third place in Science, Technology, Health and Environmental Reporting.
