A teenage girl was killed in a head-on collision on Thursday night just north of the city limits.

Rachel Scarberry, 16, of Piedmont was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 p.m. at SW. 38th and Mustang Road.

Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said Scarberry was driving northbound on Mustang Road in a Ford Focus when she crossed the center line and struck a Ford pickup head-on. He said the driver of the pickup was not injured.

Emergency crews closed off all four lanes of Mustang Road while they worked the accident.

Sgt. Knight said it is unknown why Scarberry went left of center and the accident is still under investigation.

Police say they had heard that Scarberry was driving home after attending a 4-H meeting in Mustang that evening.

For whatever reasoning, I pray for her family. May the Lord provide comfort and healing....

You know it was extremely windy that night but it's possible she was avoiding a deer too
