The Minco Bulldogs JV and varsity baseball teams won their season openers on Friday despite extremely cold and windy conditions.

The JV team defeated Geary 6-1 and the varsity squad won 11-0 as Minco hosted the Bison.

"It was freezing cold," said first-year coach Jason Little. "Our kids did very well for the weather conditions and the wind that was coming out of the north."

In the JV game, the Bison threatened to take in early lead as they loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with only one out. However, the Bulldogs managed to get out of the inning without giving up a single run.

Minco scored in the first inning and went on to win the game 6-1, with the help of strong pitching by Shannon Riley, who got the win.

In the varsity game, the Bulldogs dominated all aspects of the game.

Ringo Garrett got his first start on the mound and helped put together a shutout as he had a complete game.

The Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and went off in the second inning, scoring six runs to increase the lead to 9-0. They would add on two more runs in the third inning.

Senior Colton Bauman went three for three at the plate at the lead-off spot, drove in a run and scored three runs.

"Colton did a great job, especially for being the lead-off man," Little said. "To get on base all three times is great. It is hard to say we did anything really wrong, we ran the bases real well and hit very well, despite Geary’s good pitching. I have seen extreme improvements in this team since last May."
