BROKEN ARROW – Mustang showed guts. But on Friday, guts just wasn’t enough.

With their backs against the wall, the Broncos fought back, tying the game twice in the second half before falling behind 24-10 with 9:17 remaining. They scored with 4:35 remaining to pull within a score, but after a 22-yard completion from Chandler Garrett (Sr.) to Bobby Brown (Sr.) with just over a minute left, facing 4th-and-52, Mustang’s season came to an end.

One year ago, Mustang did the unthinkable.

The Broncos knocked off a powerful, east-side opponent on the road, in the playoffs --- defeating Broken Arrow at Tiger Field in the Class 6A-1 quarterfinals.

It’s familiar territory to say the least as Mustang embarks on another quest for the state championship, once again opening the postseason at Broken Arrow tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Softball: Mustang falls big in battle of district winners

Class 6A’s two district champions met on Tuesday and it was apparent one team has plenty of momentum heading into regional playoffs next week.

Southmoore (31-2, 13-1) came into Mustang (28-8, 12-2), scored 11 runs in five innings and held the Broncos to one hit in a run-rule, shutout win. Each team will host a regional and each team should reach the playoffs, but the Sabercats looked like the team to beat, much like the Broncos in 2014.

Football: Week 4 Preview v. Edmond North

Mustang (3-0) starts district play this week, hosting Edmond North (1-2) tonight at Bronco Stadium.

The Broncos are coming off a fourth quarter, comeback win over Edmond Memorial last week. They scored a pair of touchdowns in the final nine minutes and held off the Bulldogs down the stretch for the win.

The Huskies are coming off their first win last Friday, defeating Stillwater 26-14 in Edmond. They dropped their first two games to Edmond Santa Fe and Edmond Memorial.
